Honor Your Life With Discipline

desciplineDiscipline is one of the most necessary traits for success.  You need to be disciplined enough in life in order to achieve your dreams.  Lack of discipline kills dreams and keeps dreams just dreams. Our generation has essentially become a generation of instant gratification and no discipline at all. Look at our relationship with social media. Our attachments to our phones; uploading Instagram pictures everywhere we go, checking Facebook every five seconds and living on Twitter isn’t only a disgusting lack of discipline but it is also very unhealthy.

God teaches us that discipline is necessary in life. As the apostle Paul says. ‘Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but only one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may win. Everyone who competes in the games exercises self-control in all things. . .Therefore I run in such a way, as not without aim; I box in such a way, as not beating the air; but I discipline my body and make it my slave, so that, after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified.’

Many people don’t know how to control themselves or their minds. They don’t value or honour their own lives enough by refusing cut corners and do something to their utmost potential.  Imagine how amazing life would be if we all did and said what we are supposed to do. Imagine how simple life would be if we didn’t evade responsibility, palm off duty and make endless excuses. How many diets have you started and abandoned? How many life strategies have you planned and left halfway? Do you ever sit and wonder what could have happened if only you had held out on that business venture or burnt an extra candle?

There are temptations that will constantly plague you but the essence of discipline is the ability to stand up strongly up to any temptation. Truly meditate on their meanings and how you can work self-discipline into your own life. It won’t be easy, but it might be one of the most important things you can do for yourself as a Christian.
