In this age of instant everything we want what we want and we want it yesterday. So we spend our time looking for the fastest and easiest ways to live our lives. Unfortunately we forget the most important fact about life; there are no shortcuts to a great life. Life is a long process of experiences and thankfully do overs; if you walk 100 miles into the life you don’t want you must walk those same 100 miles to get out of that life. The journey out becomes easier if we didn’t take any shortcuts in the first place.
There is always a better way. When your back is against the wall, do not be tempted to take the easy way out. Avoid taking shortcuts. Never allow the pressure of the situation to force you to do something dishonest or dishonorable. Before you strike out in anger or terror, call for the strength, energy and presence of mind to do what is best for everyone involved. No matter what happens to you, you will be better off if you look for a better way of doing things. Trust that no matter what stands before you, you can handle it by taking the high road.
We have all been there; the skeptical beginnings of major changes, the less than stellar times we lose our footing or the crises of confidence that can settle in when we’re going through a rough patch of life. Circumstances can trick us into thinking that cutting corners, dishonoring ourselves or giving up on our values will advance our efforts. Unfortunately they never do. As Australian author Mark Donnelly says; yesterday’s shortcuts are today’s nightmares. The race is quicker when we’re stricter. Keep your eyes on today, and declare what you may.
When you are stressed, pressured or simply afraid, it is easy to be lured into being dishonest. If you are angry, it is understandable that you would want to strike out. Let’s face it, in those situations when it seems that telling a lie will save you, chances are you will consider telling the lie. Don’t do it. There is always a better way. When you deliberately trespass the boundaries of what is good, honest, loving and harmonious, there will be hell to pay. Don’t be the one who has to pay it.
